Festive Feelings

Need an icebreaker for that church gathering or office party?  Maybe your flying solo for a while and you’re looking for something to do that’s creative and cheerful.  Well, here at Guess What’s we are always looking for unique ways to connect with people and to ENJOY… OUR… LIVES!

There are so many ways to enjoy the holiday without spending a dime.

Here are just a few suggestions to get you started…

  • Board Games!  Remember those?  If you haven’t seen your monopoly game since you were in high school, or if you never beat your dad at a game of chess…I think it’s time that he goes DOWN! (Respectfully, of course!) I say pull out those dusty, yet colorful pieces of chip board with all of their lovely missing pieces and make it happen.  (Note: paper clips, buttons, and such, are great substitutes FYI.) I’m aware that board games usually require two or more people, but those who have played against themselves are people too.
  • Card games are so cool.  UNO, Solitare, I Declare “War”, Pitty Pat, Spades, Spider, Bridge, and so on are excellent time wasters…I mean, crowd pleasers. Also, if you get bored you can always attempt to sharpen your building skills by stacking them ever so carefully on top of the other. Which is probably a piece of cake. I mean, why buy art when you can create it yourself, right?
  • I would include binge watching, but I think most of us don’t call that a holiday thing.  I think we just call that the weekend.  We should try to make this time special. So, if we just have to catch up on the latest episodes of whatever it is that gives us temporary joy, let’s switch it up by watching something we haven’t seen. Or, we can watch something we HAVE seen with someone who HASN’T seen it. Am I the only one who enjoys watching other people’s reactions? Well, if that’s still not enough, try switching up your snack choices.  It might change everything because you won’t care anymore due to your yummy distraction.
  • Becoming a professional entertainer right within your home is another suggestion.  You can be a top star singer, dancer, athlete, etc., all in one place.  That’s Right!  Within your four walls you can turn garbage pails into hoops, socks into balls, brushes into microphones, shirts into long wigs, pots, pans and rubber bands into custom instruments, all with the intention of bringing the crowds to their feet as you display the talents that are hidden from everyone but them.  Just remember to remove everything that is sharp or can get broken out of the way.  I know I wouldn’t want to relive those moments again.

The bottom line is that we are only limited by our imagination.  It doesn’t matter how young or how old we are.  All of us can live our best life in one way or another.  Whether we’re surrounded by a crowd of loved one’s or strangers, or even if there is no one at all, Let’s find ways to bind ourselves to hope because our true reason for the season came to successfully give us faith, hope and LOVE through the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corithians 13:6-7

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always, hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.
