Don’t Let Fear Take Over

The word perilous would be a mild way to describe our times today.  There are so many people with so many different opinions.  Various opinions don’t always have to be considered a bad thing, but it becomes one when someone’s opinion encourages fear.

Yes, I know that there is a difference between good fear and bad.  Where would we be if our parents never warned us NOT to touch the stove because it was hot? I don’t know about you, but I still look both ways before I cross the street.

Of course, that is not the fear that I’m talking about. I’m talking about the life crippling, character changing fear that takes your peace of mind and the sense of your GOD given purpose.  Yes sir, I’m coming for it.  The fear that makes you regret waking up in the morning and afraid to go to sleep at night. Is there anyone out there who has encountered that kind of terror?

[2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.]

Fear, like any other emotion, can be a force to be reckoned with. Especially when it is not dealt with. Many scholars, philosophers and theologians have acknowledged that we all have moments of feeling afraid of something. One of the biggest fears I’ve noticed among my peers are the fears of the unknown.  What’s going to happen next?  Where will I work? Who will I marry? Will we have enough money? There are so many questions that may not have immediate answers. Not to mention, the worlds high standards of success that push us into thought patterns that can be far beyond ridiculous, and unrealistic ideals can make you feel totally unaccomplished.  The danger of it all is when fear takes over your life. The thing to do is to have the courage to take one more step, dream one more dream, and to face one more day despite the signals around us that say that there is no use in trying.

Therefore, I’m taking a stand to reclaim the joy of living that can be so easily stolen by fear.  Today I’m serving fear an eviction notice. I choose to love more, I choose to have more faith in God and his promises for my life,  and I choose to hope for the best that life can offer.

Case closed.

How about you?
